To better compare them, I tried the Dyson Airwrap on one side of my hair and the Shark FlexStyle on the other. When it came to the actual styling, the Dyson felt lighter and had more easy-to-use buttons. At its highest heat, the Shark's cool shot button took longer to kick in, but once it did, it locked in hairstyles.

To put it through its paces, I swapped between the SpeedStyle’s attachments each time, using a paddle brush and comb to achieve different styles and results. And this is despite the fact that Shark has included cool-touch zones on the dryer and the attachments.
But the most notable feature of the Shark FlexStyle is its lockable, twistable rod to accommodate different hair drying and styling methods. Shark also offers a diffuser attachment equipped with extendable prongs to accommodate all sorts of hair types, which Dyson lacks. Many hair dryers come with (or are compatible with) attachments that allow you to tailor your blow-out experience to your needs. To say this whole process is time-consuming and overly complex would be an understatement. There’s a lot of turning the dryer on and off, multiple wrapping attempts, waiting, holding curls and separating sections. The AirWave is probably the easiest route to beachy waves; all you have to do is choose whether you want your hair to be curled to the left or the right, then feed your hair into the attachment and let this tool work its wavy magic. There are many different hair styling gadgets on the market that use top technology and promise wonderful results, but the HyperAIR is laden with features that really make it stand out. Though, the 2-inch wide barrels don't offer much real estate length-wise at only 6 inches long, which meant dividing long hair into smaller sections. I also found it a bit tasking to switch the barrels in order to curl hair in different directions.
It’s a more versatile appliance as it can transform between a hair dryer and a styling wand, plus, it’s lighter too. It might be a bit more expensive in the US and UK, but in Australia especially, the FlexStyle sits at a more affordable price – so you do the math. Because I have thick, wavy hair (and a lot of it, might I add), I’m used to setting aside over an hour to blow dry my hair, but with this hair dryer, my hair is no longer sopping wet within 30 minutes. That’s a win in my book, given that I’m usually standing in my bathroom for over an hour, hair dryer(begrudingly) in tow. This product is one of the more expensive hair dryers on the market right now, but in my opinion, it's worth every penny — especially now that it's on sale. Time is money, and this tool gets my hair dry faster than any other product I've tested.
To get the most out of these attachments, you should start by drying hair until it’s around 80% dry. The styling concentrator also works well, but it’s a staple attachment for most hair dryers and not unique to the Shark Speedstyle. You likely won’t have to use the latter two buttons as the SpeedStyle inherits the auto-adjustments from the much older Shark Style iQ hair dryer. You can still manually make adjustments if you need to, although I found letting the SpeedStyle do its thing can save a little time. Adding to the weight are five attachments that come with the SpeedStyle, and each one performs a specific task when drying and styling hair.
